Homecoming Scotland 2009

The Family History Society of Buchan is a proud partner in the Scottish Government Initiative - Homecoming Scotland 2009. Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrates the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth with a year-long programme of events across the country. We’re also celebrating some of Scotland’s great contributions to the world: golf, whisky, great minds and innovations and Scotland’s rich culture and heritage

Our interest is the cultural and heritage element of the celebrations and in particular the study of family history. Tracing your family history is a pilgrimage of discovery that leads you to an understanding of the lives and times of ancestors who lived many hundreds of years ago - and perhaps even thousands of miles away - in a time and circumstances that we cannot even contemplate. Retracing the footsteps of your ancestors will not only bring the past to life, it will also make your home coming the most dynamic and exciting experience of your life.

2009 will be a special year with many special events focussing on Scottish ancestry, traditions and culture. So if you are making your own ancestral journey back to Buchan and North-east Scotland please make contact with us by emailing chair(at)fhsb.org.uk [replace the (at) with a @ symbol] and let us know when you are coming ‘home’

If enough people make contact we can organise events to welcome you an maybe even introduce you to your Scottish cousins. This welcome is extended to non-members of the FHSB in addition to our own committed membership.
